Popular tours and itineraries including Camps Bay

Camps Bay, Cape Town

About

Camps Bay is the playground of the rich and famous in Cape Town.  Both a residential area and a bustling site for those who enjoy cocktails at sunset while admiring their golden brown tans; acquired on Camps Bay beach earlier that day. The famous Twelve Apostles and Lion’s Head keep watch over this incredibly scenic valley while the Atlantic Ocean laps this pinnacle of South African tourisms shore.

The palm-tree-lined Camps Bay Promenade is brimming with bespoke restaurants, and superb bars and hotels that flurry out onto a street lined with Ferraris and Lamborghinis  – no matter what kind of cuisine you’re after you’ll find it at one of these many eateries. Camps Bay is also home to some of the best accommodation in South Africa and once you witness the views from any point in Camps Bay you’ll understand why.

There are 2 main beaches – Glenn Beach, which is smaller and private, and Camps Bay beach, which is one of Cape Town’s largest stretches of gorgeous white sand that plays host to thousands of visitors during the summer months.

While there is a cloak of affluence and notoriety that covers Camps Bay there is also incredible natural splendor and sense of relaxation and an easy-going way of life.  Take another sip on that cocktail and enjoy le good life in Camps Bay.

Location

Camps Bay is situated on what is referred to as the Atlantic Seaboard in the Western part of Cape Town. It’s neighboring suburbs are Clifton and Bakoven.

Getting There

There are 3 different routes to get to Camps Bay, either through Cape Town city centre, from Hout Bay or along the Atlantic Seaboard from Sea Point.

Best time to visit

Camps Bay thrives in the summer as tourists and locals alike take to its beaches and enjoy its superb nightlife. Spring is a great time to walk along the beach, have breakfast at one of the restaurants or hire a bicycle, especially as the roads will be quieter. Unfortunately during winter, Camps Bay loses its charm, especially as the chilly wind comes off the ocean and the rains come.

We offer tailor-made holidays including ground transport for transfers, tours and multi centre trips.

Activities in or near Camps Bay

The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.

When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
