Intimate and artistic, this designer boutique provides peace and quiet after days exploring Cape Town. Sea Star Rocks is situated in lofty seclusion just above the upper-class beach suburb of Camps Bay, with gobsmacking views of the sea and Table Mountain. Once a private mansion, it offers a pool and Jacuzzi alongside seriously spacious rooms.
Accommodation
Spanning rooms and suites, each open-plan residence here promises grab-your-camera sea views, plus Nespresso machines and floor-to-ceiling windows which allow light to pour in. The entry-level option are cosy Pool Rooms, located right next to the main pool, and featuring freestanding bathtubs. Three suites all have a bathtub and balcony or terrace, but only the Private Pool Suite boasts its own plunge pool. Real A-Listers book the Penthouse, however, enjoying a Jacuzzi tub, fireplace, Yamaha grand piano, designer kitchen, sea-facing balcony, mountain-view terrace, huge TV and private gym.
Facilities
Contemporary common areas contain Roche Bobois chairs and giant, colourful Tretchikoff art prints. They include the lounge used for breakfast: an extensive buffet and accompanying hot-dish menu. Outside is a slim 18m-long infinity pool, and adjacent Jacuzzi. Both look thrillingly down the hill, over Camps Bay, and their deck makes an excellent place for sunset sips of Sea Star Rocks’ own wine, made at Franschhoek.
Activities
You can walk to Camps Bay’s famously-fantastic white-sand beach – and all the restaurants lining it – in under 20 pleasant minutes. The windy, steep roads back are best tackled by taxi, however. It’s a 20-25-minute drive to the V&A Waterfront and central Cape Town, and less to Table Mountain’s cable car station. The Winelands are also within day-trip range. Sea Star Rocks organises guided hikes from time to time, and can prepare picnics; ask staff for details.
Child Policy
All ages are welcome, and extra beds and babysitting can be arranged. That said, despite the spacious suites, this feels like a grown-ups’ hotel.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
