9-night Self Drive Cape Town, Garden Route and Game

This is a fantastic itinerary that takes in all the best bits of Cape Town and the Garden Route with an added bonus of  some game viewing.  

The accommodation is in 4 and 5 star accommodation that we believe you will absolutely love.  

Azamare is a  small guest house with sea-view bedrooms in Camps Bay.

Lairds Lodge is a beautiful Cape Dutch homesteadon the the Garden Route.

Kariega River  is a thatched lodge combining sun, sea and safari in the Kariega Game Reserve  .

Please note that this itinerary is a representation of what you are able to do in South Africa.  We will work with you to select accommodation and day trips to suit your budget and requirements.

Day 1

Welcome to Cape Town! Collect your hire car and make your way to the Azamare Guest House in Camps Bay, where you will spend the next four nights on a bed and breakfast basis in a Luxury room. Weather permitting, take the trip over to Robben Island or take the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain and acclimatise yourself to Cape Town from a birds eye view. Visit some of Cape Town's magical hotspots for sundowner cocktails before heading off for supper at one of South Africa's top restaurants.

Day 2

Today you can head off on a full day tour of Cape Peninsular and Cape Point. Pack a picnic and your swimmers as deserted beaches, crystal clear waters and magical scenery are the order of the day. Visit Hout Bay, where you can take a boat trip out to see the resident seal colony, Fishhook, Kalk Bay and the historical Navy town of Simons Town. Take a walk amongst the penguins of Boulder Bay and just enjoy the serenity of Cape Point and its beautiful show of spring flowers and wild life. Private escorted tours are also available. Back to the hotel for a casual supper in one of Cape Towns local restaurants on Kloof Street or Long Street.

Day 3

Head out to Franschhoek and Stellenbosch today, visiting some of South Africa's top wineries on the way. Enjoy lunch under the trees on a working wine farm, either picnic hamper style with locally made bread, cheese and charcuterie. Alternatively, enjoy a lunch at one of Franschhoek's top restaurants, and experience fine dining at its best. Private escorted tours are also available. You will head back to Cape Town this evening for a light supper at one of Cape Towns many options including sushi on a local wine farm or a tasting meal at one of South Africa's top resturants such as La Colombe or The Test Kitchen.

Day 4

Explore Camps Bay palm-flanked beach and boutiques.

Day 5

Today you will leave behind the Mother City and drive the 4 hours up the world-renowned Garden Route to Plettenberg Bay, staying at Lairds Lodge for three nights on a bed and breakfast basis in a luxury room.

Day 6

Enjoy a tour of the Titsikama Forest today with a private guide, a boat trip out to see whales, dolphins, sharks and other marine life. Book onto a magical cocktail and canape sunset cruise on the Knysna lagoon, and enjoy watching the sunset whilst on the water.

Day 7

Spend the day visiting the many beaches of Plettenberg Bay, visit the quaint little town of Knysna, or take a guided boat trip out to the nature reserve on the Knysna heads, where you can indulge in fresh local oysters for which the area is famed.

Day 8

Drive on to Kariega Game Reserve where you'll stay at the River Lodge for two nights in a suite with full board and game drives included.

Day 9

Go river fishing and canoeing or take a daily boat cruise to a nearby coastal village and sandy beaches.

Day 10

Following a final early morning game drive, you will head back to Cape Town for your flight back to Heathrow
