About
Now this truly is exclusive. Containing just six rooms – and available for exclusive hire – Dock House is dreamily located close to the bustling V&A Waterfront. The action’s only an amble away, yet you’re far enough for some precious serenity. The spa, pool and excellent restaurant help with that too, luxuries which were presumably alien to the initial resident of this former Harbour Master’s residence. Stylish and modern, today’s incarnation shares the same giddy views across Table Bay.
Accommodation
Those six rooms are actually five rooms and one luxury suite. That latter is downstairs, coming with its own living area and private garden, whilst another downstairs room has a veranda that faces the main gardens and pool. Three of the four upstairs chambers boast a private balcony, and all have well-appointed bathrooms, plasma-screen tellies and a marriage of understated Victoriana – floral-design armchairs; elaborate gilt mirrors – and contemporary style via tiny pot plants, hanging lights and muted hues.
Facilities
The manicured gardens, sparkling pool, deck and accompanying bar share a glorious Table Mountain backdrop. If you can somehow tear yourself away, indoors is the Urban Beauty Spa and its cutting-edge gym facilities and treatment rooms. You can easily book lunch or dinner at formal restaurants at Dock House’s two sister hotels: the Victoria & Alfred Hotel’s regally-positioned OYO Restaurant (closed May-August 2016 for refurbishment) and the Queen Victoria’s bijou Dash Restaurant & Bar, named after the monarch’s pet spaniel.
Activities
The Dock House is quietly positioned within the vibrant and trendy V&A Waterfront, home to more restaurants, shops and the Two Oceans Aquarium. Trips to Table Mountain, Camp’s Bay beach and Robben Island can be arranged by the butler-like staff, as can helicopter flights, safari days, shark cage-diving and Winelands circuits
Child Policy
Children are very welcome. Two of the upstairs rooms can interconnect and babysitting is available.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
