Description
As fun as hotels come, the Grand Daddy includes a rooftop Airstream trailer park, buzzing bars and a cinema, plus rooms decorated with abundant colour and funky creativity. Don’t think brash, though: this is a four-star hotel with the style and service to back up that status. And indeed the location: bustling Long Street is arguably the city’s focal road, and well positioned for V&A Waterfront or Table Mountain visits.
Accommodation
Inside the hotel, the 24 rooms split into five categories: Family, Standard, Single, Superior and Luxury. The former three are smaller and afford courtyard views; size and better vistas are included if you pay more, along with marble bathrooms. There are also two suites – the ground-floor Grand Daddy with its own garden patio, and the first-floor Sugar Daddy, boasting Juliet balconies – and then those seven Airstream trailers on the roof, a unique offering where many guests opt to spend a night. These are a bit cramped in size, but the artist-designed interiors and sheer novelty ably compensate.
Facilities
Next to those trailers is the outdoor Pink Flamingo Rooftop Cinema, whose classic movies combine with picnics and fizz, plus a small pub where bands play on Friday nights. The Table Mountain views are astonishing, especially come sunset. The ground-floor is home to Thirty-Ate, an informal corner restaurant with realistic prices and a neighbourhood vibe. Beside that awaits the white-leather Daddy Cool Bar, flanked by a digital art gallery. Told you it was fun.
Activities
Five blocks away is Cape Town’s nightlife HQ; you’re also near to galleries, shops, more restaurants and parks. Table Mountain is 10 minutes’ drive away, and the V&A Waterfront scarcely further.
Child Policy
Children of all ages are welcome, although those aged 3-16 must stay in a suite or Luxury Room. Fold-up mattresses are provided.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
