About
Hotel locations don’t come better: Steenberg is just 20 minutes from both Cape Town and False Bay’s beaches, and yet buried deep in Constantia Valley – home to South Africa’s densest concentration of award-winning wine-producers. The Cape’s oldest farm, this particular 300-year-old estate affords views all the way to the Atlantic from its vineyards, gardens, pool and golf course. Framing a tree-lined courtyard, three farmhouse buildings at its centre retain 17th-century character despite a tasteful refurbishment.
Accommodation
The 24 options range from Standard Luxury Rooms up to five suites. Premier Rooms are most contemporary, while sunny barn chambers and atmosphere digs in the original Manor House suit those seeking a rustic or colonial, old-world vibe. Every one has wi-fi and air-conditioning. Suites come with their own lounge, kitchen, fireplace, stand-alone bathtub and private butler. Offering added character, Heritage Suites are themed around former occupiers of the region.
Facilities
Both excellent restaurants – fine-dining Catharina’s and more relaxed Bistro Sixteen82 – are open all day. Bistro Sixteen82 also includes a raw-food counter, and lies adjacent to a state-of-the-art wine-tasting room. The Steenberg Magna Carta is especially exceptional. Elsewhere, there’s a champagne bar, the opulent Ginkgo Spa and – out among pristine flowerbeds and manicured lawns – a large, secluded swimming pool.
Activities
Hotel guests receive priority bookings at the championship-level, 18-hole Steenberg Golf Course. You can also embark on guided vineyard tours, or simply the stroll the grounds and read a book somewhere quiet. If you do decide to leave, daily scheduled shuttles to Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront and complimentary chauffeur rides to anywhere within a 5km radius make life easy. Table Mountain is close, and there’s lots of local hiking, birdwatching and biking to enjoy.
Child Policy
Children of all ages are welcome, with family rooms and babysitting available.
