Description
Cape Town’s largest and glammest hotel is a five-star showstopper, combining a prestigious V&A Waterfront position with sharp looks and exceptional amenities. A huge entrance lobby and bar immediately sets the tone: one whole side of it is a floor-to-ceiling facing Table Mountain. Goosebumps are virtually guaranteed. Explore further and you’ll find unrivalled kids’ programmes, city-leading dining (Nobu & Reubens) and a spa occupying its own island.
Accommodation
There are ten categories of rooms and suites, ranging from medium to mammoth. Each has sumptuous bathrooms, Bose surround-sound audio systems, Nespresso machines and iPod docking stations, while throws and tribal artefacts lend splashes of colour alongside dark-wood furniture. All ‘rooms’ are in the main Marina Rise building, and one of the hotel’s two landscaped islands hosts one and two-bedroom suites – with glorious balconies or terraces – plus a separate pool area.
Facilities
The three high-quality dining options are Japanese bar-raiser Nobu, local celebrity chef Reuben Riffel’s restaurant, and Mediterranean fare at poolside Isola. Beforehand, stop for a drink in Vista Bar, admiring that huge window, or at the Wine Loft: one of its three floors is a tasting room for rare vintages. If all this choosing is proving too stressful, hit up the Spa Island – Cape Town’s premier wellness haven, complete with a yoga pavillion, gym, ginormous heated infinity pool and 12 treatment rooms – or view modern African artworks at the Goodman Gallery.
Activities
Guests can stroll to the Waterfront’s shops and restaurants, or work on their handicap at one of Cape Town’s sensational golf courses. The One&Only staff can also arrange safaris, Winelands excursions and beach visits.
Child Policy
The KidsOnly club accompanies its PlayStation consoles and movie lounge with African dancing and jewellery-making classes, and a teenagers’ programme includes rock climbing and indoor go-karting. Teens can also enjoy bespoke spa treatments – how about a Jet Setters Mini Pedicure?
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
