About
Majestically located atop one of the iconic Knysna Heads – imposing cliffs through which the Knysna River narrowly flows from lagoon to sea – five-star Head Over Hills is as scenic as hotels come, with the happy bonus of great whale or dolphin-watching and sunsets. It’s also very luxurious, with eight ocean-chic rooms affording serious comfort. Able to be rented by-room or in its entirety as a villa, this is the perfect place for Garden Routers seeking exclusivity in a beautiful setting.
Accommodation
Book any of the eight luxurious rooms and you’re guaranteed a private balcony offering goosebump-inducing views of the Indian Ocean and inland Knysna Lagoon. You’re also guaranteed heated towel rails, bathtubs, small red Smeg fridges, floor-to-ceiling windows, gingham bedspreads and subdued pastel hues, from soft sandy browns to ivory whites. Book the four Suites for extra space and living areas. Or book the whole place, and feel like Knysna royalty.
Facilities
An infinity pool also overlooks the ocean, as does an outdoor Jacuzzi and lounger-lined wooden deck. Gourmet breakfasts are served on the latter, or indoors in the dining room. Near that is a fire-heated lounge with a fully-stocked honesty bar. Wi-Fi is available throughout, and the guest house is wheelchair friendly.
Activities
Head Over Hills’ enviable position means a daily chance of seeing spectacular sunsets, dolphins or whales from its outdoor areas. Golf is another specialty: the hotel is a corporate member of the Pezula Championship Golf Course, a couple of miles away, meaning guests can play at a discounted fee. Also available are sunset boat cruises on the Knysna Lagoon, and bikes to explore the local area. Shuttles into Knysna itself can be organised.
Child Policy
Only children over 12 are admitted – unless Head Over Hills is rented in its entirety, that is, in which case all ages can be accommodated.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
