About
Consistently ranked among South Africa’s finest – if not the finest – hotels, five-star Bushman’s Kloof sits loftily on hillside within a private Cederberg Mountains nature reserve. Along with heavenly quietude, its guests can enjoy magical dining experiences, luxurious lounges and rooms, an infinity pool and adventures amid the rocky plains. Most memorable are the fynbos, whose incredibly vivid spring (July-October) blooms have been aided by the hotel’s impressive conservation efforts.
Accommodation
The main house and surrounding buildings gardens contain 16 upscale rooms and suites, each soothingly decked out in natural-earth tones and adorned with African art. All come with yoga mats and superb views of the surrounding sandstone formations. Also on the estate is the segregated Koro Lodge, a former farmhouse turned catered villa. Perfect for families or large groups and extremely luxurious, it can accommodate up to six.
Facilities
Using local products and approaches, the award-winning spa includes an outdoor gazebo for al-fresco treatments. Nearby are the heated pool and vegetable and herb gardens, while a restaurant, library, gym, two cosy lounges and a fascinating Heritage Centre, which features a permanent exhibition of the Rudner Collection of Bushman artefacts, are all inside. Fireside nightcaps are served in a riverside boma, while exquisite dinners can be gobbled on riverbanks, within a walled garden or in a secluded cottage
Activities
Sunset game drives hope to spy mountain zebra, ostriches and the elusive Cape leopard, while after-dark jaunts often encounter aardwolfs and wild cats. Nature walks take in swaths of the 755 indigenous fynbos species. You could also hike to some of the Cederberg’s many Bushman cave paintings. Canoeing, biking and rock-climbing offer further excitement, while fly-fishing, croquet and stargazing provide slower-paced alternatives. Almost all activities are included with your board.
Child Policy
While guests at Bushmans Kloof must be 10 or over, Koro Lodge welcomes children of all ages. Cederberg is malaria-free.
