The Knysna Elephant Park has dedicated the last 20 years to elephants. More than forty elephants have been rescued and/or relocated over the years from this internationally recognised elephant facility.
The elephants in the park have come here as calves rescued from culls or as a result of relocations from game reserves around the area. Some have been relocated from reserves where conflict with rhino threatened their survival and some as a result of being abandoned by their mother at birth. Some elephants have stayed and become part of the resident herd, whilst others have moved on to other facilities or reserves where they roam freely and have started families of their own.
Come and experience a day of fun, interactive activity including daily tours, elephant walks, elephant feeding, sundowner packages and exclusive elephant back safari packages.
Your elephant encounter begins in the Interpretation Centre where you are in introduced to the elephants through beautiful photographic and informative displays. A short video presentation gives you further insight into the park and its elephant-orientated missions and goals. The facilities are world class and the style of management ensures that the elephant interact with guests on their own terms within a controlled, free range environment. Visitors to the park are privileged to have a close up and personal encounter and leave having gained a healthy respect for these gentle giants, as well as a better understanding of the African elephant and their plight across the continent. Most importantly, by visiting the park, guests make a direct contribution to elephant husbandry and care and therefore give the elephants the best possible chance of a good life.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
