Description
South Africa’s most amazing property? Tsala certainly gets our vote. Not only are its 16 treehouse villas and suites elevated up to six metres high in the Tsitsikamma Forest’s canopy, but each comes with an infinity pool. Throw in acclaimed dinners and a desirable Garden Route location, and this really is as romantic and spellbinding as lodges ever come. So don’t hesitate: realise all those childhood fantasies by booking a few luxury nights up in the trees.
Accommodation
Linked by wooden walkways, the ten suites and six villas all gaze across the lush Piesang River Valley. Every one comes with a thrilling infinity plunge pool, private deck and outdoor shower to maximise those enchanting vistas, plus dramatic floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Inside are cosy fireplaces, ceiling fans, lounges and bathrooms with freestanding tubs big enough for two. Sleeping four, larger villas have extra space, an extra bedroom, kitchenettes and dining rooms.
Facilities
The guest areas include comfy lounges, a fire-heated library and a restaurant above the superbly-stocked wine cellar. Expect excellent seafood and African fusion dishes in there, or outside are large, suspended decks, floating down several levels, during sunset. There’s also another pool, while more international nosh is available at Zinzi, an informal restaurant located with the same owners.
Activities
Just six miles from Plettenberg Bay, Tsala is ideally situated for the Garden Route’s golf, hiking, skydiving, scuba-diving, cycling and beaches. Its exceptionally helpful staff can set all of that up for you, along with boat cruises, treetop canopy tours, horse riding, whale watching (July to November) and visits to Monkeyland.
Child Policy
Tsala is, unsurprisingly, a magical place for children. Only those over 10 can stay in a suite, while the villas accept kids aged 8 and above. Juniors are treated to special turn-downs, bedtime stories and children’s meals at Zinzi.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
We are still on an absolute high from our incredible trip to South Africa and cannot recommend booking with Ash Jarvis at Best of South Africa Travel highly enough. Ash ‘got it right’ from the get go. Not only is her knowledge of where to go, stay and what to do unbeatable, but she also has a knack, an intuition
for what is exactly right for you. From where to get the best breakfast, pizza or Michelin starred meal. The best time to visit the best places. What is a must, what can be a maybe, what is a wet weather option. All of this information delivered in a fantastically informative and friendly way.
Our trip was amazing. Kwandwe Ecca Lodge for a safari was incredible, Tsala Treetop in Plettenberg Bay was superb, our room at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Capetown was perfect for us.
But, the real reason to book with Best of South Africa Travel is Ash - you won’t get better.
