With 14 000 hectares of African bushveld to discover, there is only one place to rest your head at night – Thornybush The River Lodge. Set in the remarkably beautiful and untamed land of the Thornybush Nature Reserve, The River Lodge provides all the luxury you would expect from a five-star safari accommodation.
The River Lodge is a more private option out of the accommodation options at the private game reserve, enabling guests to feel like they are living in their own secluded corner of Africa.
The Big Five sightings here don’t disappoint and the panoramic views of the expansive land will leave you wanting to explore the furthest outcrops on the horizon that are lit up during every sunset.
Accommodation
The River Lodge offers three intimate suites with plunge pools and one superier two-bedroomed Royal Suite featuring a private lounge and heated plunge pool. This means that attention to details and service excellence is of the highest priority here with guests every whim catered to.
All the suites overlook the seasonal Monwana River and reflect the vast space of the open land around them. Each one is decorated with tasteful African chic and have thatched roofs overhead – providing the real feel of African outback. The bathrooms feature floor to ceiling glass doors, truly bringing the outside indoors. All suites have outdoor showers.
Facilities
Guests can relax in the swimming pool at The River Lodge or take in the far-reaching views from the decks that have been elevated to ensure you don’t miss a single sight from the bush below. The lounge area is a fantastic place to reminisce about the day’s adventures before heading back to your suite to rest your head on the finest cotton linen.
Child Policy
Children under the age of 12 years are accepted on request and have to be accommodated with parents in the Royal Suite.

Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
