About
Just ten minutes from Kruger National Park in the banana-producing town of Hazyview, Rissington Inn makes a perfect stopover option for those visiting South Africa’s safari HQ – and for anyone wisely wanting to explore Mpumalanga’s many treasures. An informal and award-winning farmhouse with cheerily colourful gardens, it also scores by offering superb value. For a relatively low price, you get big bedrooms, famously-good breakfasts, large lounges and friendly service.
Accommodation
The 16 spacious rooms and suites have their own verandas or balconies and private entrances, and tasteful, homely decor. Unexpectedly big Budget Rooms occupy the main thatched farmhouse, shaded by magnificent trees and affording lovely views down the Sabie River valley, with Superior Rooms in a former tobacco barn. Most popular are the Garden and Hillside Suites, partly because of their air-conditioning, hammocks or daybeds, outside showers and Victorian-style bathtubs. The two Hillside Suites share a pool.
Facilities
Rissington’s legendary breakfasts, along with lunches and uncomplicated dinners – with ample vegetarian options – are dished up in the à la carte restaurant, or may outside if desired. A convivial, pub-style bar, a sitting room and a large library complete the indoor options. Outside is the rectangular pool and those extensive gardens, dotted with jacaranda trees.
Activities
Your congenial hosts can recommend long local trails, with possible ostrich, giraffe, zebra and impala sightings, or provide lists for the outstanding on-site birdwatching. As well as Kruger, the Panorama Route is just minutes away, leading to Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck and other incredible rock formations, various waterfalls and the heritage town of Pilgrim’s Rest. Other possible activities include golf, horse-riding, hot-air ballooning, mountain-biking, ziplining and elephant sanctuary visits.
Child Policy
All ages are welcome. The Hillside Suites have two bedrooms, while kids are welcome to eat specially-prepared dinners in the sitting room.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
