About
This exclusive beachfront resort is nestled in sub-tropical serenity along KwaZulu-Natal’s famous Dolphin Coast. A five-star retreat, it packs in luxury accommodation and a championship 18-hole golf course within a coastal forest reserve. Its hospitality is deservedly legendary, with personal butlers on hand to meet a guest’s every last demand.
Accommodation
The 76 uniquely-designed rooms all boast a private balcony with exquisite forest, Indian Ocean or golf course views. Each also comes with large freestanding bathtubs, and each is decorated to naturally complement the lodge’s subtropical surroundings. Fairmont View Rooms afford superior vistas to Fairmont Rooms, while One-Bedroom Suites pack in an extra balcony plus lounge and dining areas.
Facilities
Lucky golfers have one of South Africa’s premier courses on their doorstep: the Zimbali Country Club, whose last five holes run along the Indian Ocean to provide spectacular sea views. It’s some consolation if you’re well over par. There are also two all-weather tennis courts, plus five pools. The infinity pool seems to disappear straight into the sea. At night, The Thandi Restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating areas, while more sea views are toastable in the Trophy Bar.
Activities
Anything that Fairmont Zimbali Lodge doesn’t offer isn’t worth doing. The vast activity list spans walking natural forest paths and gardens, fishing in the Indian Ocean at dawn, scuba-diving, dolphin-watching, game drives in nearby parks, Battlefields trips and helicopter flights. Or you could just soak up the sun on the estate’s beach or lakeside. Free shuttles operate to the Fairmont Zimbali Resort, a few kilometres away, where more golf and dining options await, plus the exclusive Willow Stream spa and its holistic treatments.
Child Policy
Children are made very welcome. Cots are available, along with babysitting, and there are some entry-level interconnecting rooms. Children’s activity programmes operate during peak periods.
The Best of South Africa Travel map displays the locations of the destinations and accommodation that we have selected and visited; for each item, hovering over or clicking the marker will display a short summary and photo of that place or hotel, and hotel pricing. Follow the links in the info box to the full page listing which has much more information.
Note that the online map offers both a satellite view (click satellite in the top right) and, for some locations, a street level view (Drag the person in the top left onto the map). These let you explore the country; and when you wish to explore in person, or if you have any questions about the places you see, give our staff a call, or request a quote. Our staff regularly visit the places and accommodation that we feature.
When you book a holiday with us we will provide full driving instructions for reaching your accommodation, where necessary; these can be used by yourself, or you could enjoy the luxury of a driver. Alternatively we will arrange private (car rather than coach) transfers for you; helicopter transfers are also possible for some destinations.
